Cathy has been working in the arts for over 20 years in a variety of arts management roles. As General Manager of New Perspectives Theatre Company; Arts Policy Manager for NHS Notts; running a Children in Need arts programme in Sneinton to working for The Creative Quarter; and as Creative Nottingham North Coordinator with Rebalancing the 

Cathy has been working in the arts for over 20 years in a variety of arts management roles. As General Manager of New Perspectives Theatre Company; Arts Policy Manager for NHS Notts; running a Children in Need arts programme in Sneinton to working for The Creative Quarter; and as Creative Nottingham North Coordinator with Rebalancing the Outer Estates Foundation; she connects people, funding and projects to deliver more arts opportunities in schools and communities. 


Cathy has been managing the ChalleNGe Partnership since March 2019.

Heidi joins the Challenge team having worked in schools to develop arts opportunities for children, young people and communities.  This includes establishing The Royal Shakespeare collaboration for the city in 2017. She also brings her experience of community organising to ensure young people's voice drives engagement and co-production of

Heidi joins the Challenge team having worked in schools to develop arts opportunities for children, young people and communities.  This includes establishing The Royal Shakespeare collaboration for the city in 2017. She also brings her experience of community organising to ensure young people's voice drives engagement and co-production of our work. 

In addition she is committed to building stronger collaborations, community connections and inter-faith dialogue across sectors to extend the reach and value of the ChalleNGe offer.

Jack Benjamin, PhD researcher, Co(l)laboratory Programme with ChalleNGe Nottingham

I am a PhD candidate at NTU and I am additionally supported by University of Nottingham and ChalleNGe through the Universities for Nottingham Collaboratory programme. My project is on safeguarding and celebrating living culture, specifically Nottingham’s many language heritages and dialects. My research interests include identity, communi

I am a PhD candidate at NTU and I am additionally supported by University of Nottingham and ChalleNGe through the Universities for Nottingham Collaboratory programme. My project is on safeguarding and celebrating living culture, specifically Nottingham’s many language heritages and dialects. My research interests include identity, community, wellbeing, sustainability and power structures. Before starting my PhD, my research focused on Russian, Polish and Translation Studies, with a particular emphasis on mixed-languages and communities.

I am also a practicing artist from Nottingham. As a musician, I have composed, performed and exhibited nationally and internationally and I regularly collaborate with other musicians across various genres and styles of music.

Ian Burton is CEO of Nottingham Music Service and has grown the service from serving 650 to more than 9000 young people, who now closely match the city’s diverse profile.  

Ian has been a teacher in schools, FE, universities & principal examiner in composing for A-level. He is a conductor & arranger, aiming to build links across communities, musical genres and styles.

Nigel Cooke is passionate about cultural and creative education. He presently works with Small Steps Big Changes on the UNICEF Child Friendly City programme.  He is chair of Young Creatives Nottingham and a trustee of the Nottingham Music Service.

During his career in the public and voluntary sectors Nigel led on innovation and Early Inter

Nigel Cooke is passionate about cultural and creative education. He presently works with Small Steps Big Changes on the UNICEF Child Friendly City programme.  He is chair of Young Creatives Nottingham and a trustee of the Nottingham Music Service.

During his career in the public and voluntary sectors Nigel led on innovation and Early Intervention. He led the team which won the title and delivered the programme for Nottingham City of Football, a programme which linked football, culture and creativity.

Colette is a Knowledge Exchange and Impact Officer in the Faculty of Arts, University of Nottingham. Prior to her completing her PhD on authorship and publishing, she was a Teacher of English and afterwards worked for the national charity, The Brilliant Club, managing programme design, delivery, training, and impact. (She is currently on Maternity Leave).

Eky’s background is in Youth and Play work - she worked across Nottingham with children and young people aged 5 – 19 year olds for over 17 years. Eky has extensive experience of working with children and young people as well as Youth Forums, Girl’s Groups

Jo McIntyre is Professor of Education at the University of Nottingham. After a number of years teaching English in local secondary schools, and then teacher education, Jo seeks through her research to understand and improve the lives of those who are marginalized or disadvantaged by society, with a particular focus on refugee education. Jo McIntyre is Professor of Education at the University of Nottingham. After a number of years teaching English in local secondary schools, and then teacher education, Jo seeks through her research to understand and improve the lives of those who are marginalized or disadvantaged by society, with a particular focus on refugee education. Jo led on the Art of Belonging project which explored the role of art and culture in fostering a sense of belonging for newly arrived young people in cities in Europe. The Art of Belonging work has continued beyond the original funded project with the development of the city wide Art of Belonging pledge, a commitment that has been embraced by a wide range of arts and cultural partners
in Nottingham.

Rick Hall is a writer and consultant in the arts, young people and creativity in education.  

Rick was founder of Ignite! a Nottingham charity dedicated to promoting creativity in learning. 

He is a Visiting Fellow at Nottingham Trent University and a 2016 Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust (CF), awarded to support his research

CONNECTING NOTTS - Youth Voice - 16-25yr olds

Members of Connecting Notts represent a range of artform interests and arts organisations in the city. They meet monthly to organise activities and events and champion the ChalleNGe vision within their work, studies and individual networks.
