Enjoy Gardening and Nature

Spend Time Outdoors

 Get out into the garden or stay indoors to learn about nature and gardening.    


  • The Woodland Trust have so many free activities for children to help them learn about and enjoy the outdoors. Including animal identification, helping wildlife and outdoor learning. 


  • Learning Through Landscapes has so many free great outdoor activities including bag gardening, bird surveys, fairy gardens and kitchen scrap gardening

.

  • Make your own bird feeder with a pine cone and lard. Once the bird feeder is made you can watch all the birds that come to your garden. 


  • The National Marine Aquarium is providing a weekly dose of the Ocean on their YouTube channel . From Underwater Volcanoes  to  Ocean Mysteries to  Life Cycles. 

 

  • Live cams and videos of your favourite animals at San Diego Zoo.


  • Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has lots of tips to garden for wildlife, take a look here.


  • Visit the Kids Gardening website for fun activities that provide opportunities for families or informal groups to learn together, while encouraging love for nature and the environment.

  • Take a look at the Royal Horticultural Society's Family Activities page for ideas about gardening and nature in your own garden. They also have hundreds of ideas for activities and projects here.


  • Watch the BBCs Live Lessons for children - Blue Planet and Winterwatch


  • So many hints and tips on the Wildlife Gardening Project to make your garden wildlife friendly, take a look here.


  •  Watch the NTU Falcon Cam  Newton building is home to a pair of peregrine falcons. These webcams stream the pair's activities live for excited viewers to follow the breeding season online from laying to fledgling.

The National Trust's '50 things to do in your back garden before you're 11¾': Gardens can be amazing places to discover wildlife and experience nature. There’s so much for you to do on your doorstep: look for shooting stars, make a wild crown, get to know colourful birds or watch furry caterpillars. You can even help the animals who come to visit by building them a new home.
